Castle of Palafolls
The castle of Palafolls is a mediaeval military building up the Castle’s hill in the town of Palafolls and near the coast. The fortress is in the comb of an elongated mountain with low elevation from Northwest to Southeast and almost parallel to the River Tordera. Very ruined, it was built overlooking the lower course and the fertile plain of the River Tordera, in a strategic location to control the royal way from Girona to Barcelona along the coast. It became center of the important barony of Palafolls within the County of Girona, whose jurisdiction stretched by the current towns of Palafolls, Malgrat, Santa Susanna and Blanes.
